Join Casper, Vanessa, and Ariana, the three original founders of Harry Potter and the Sacred Text, for a pilgrimage next May in Devonshire, England! We have never run a pilgrimage with this configuration of staff before, and we are thrilled to be able to offer the opportunity to gather together with an intimate group of sixteen pilgrims. We are not sure when the stars (and schedules) will align to make this experience happen again, so if you are interested in being in conversation with the core thought partners behind the podcast, this is a special opportunity.
Together, we will explore Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban through the theme of escape. Each day, we will have a morning discussion about our theme, viewing it through a passage of the text. We will engage in sacred reading practices to deepen our understanding of the text and more richly imagine the purposes it can serve in our lives. During the day, we will walk up to twelve miles a day through beautiful countryside, coastline, and woodlands. Using the landscape as a source of inspiration, we will spend our days walking, reading, and joining in conversation about the third book of the series.
For the time we are together, we will be thinking about what role escape plays in this book and the Harry Potter series as a whole. We’ll connect these themes and conversations to our own lives, asking ourselves questions like: how do we view the idea of escapism? What are we escaping from and what are we escaping towards? What are the means of our escape(s) and how do they operate as positive or negative forces? How are escape and imagination intertwined?
We’ll meet near the Plymouth train station on the early afternoon of the 15th and then travel to the riverside country estate Erth Barton, where we’ll stay for the remainder of our time together. Each day, we will make space for writing, reflection, reading, silence, ancient reading practices and of course, walking.
